Insight™ Unmanned Aircraft System
The Insight UAS platform is the foundation of Insitu's small UAS products and services. Boeing's ScanEagle and Fugro's GeoRanger are built on the Insight platform and share its capabilities and fundamental features.
Insitu develops affordable, long-endurance, autonomous aerial vehicle systems (UASs) designed to provide persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data (ISR), battle damage assessment and/or communications relay. Insitu is the developer of the Boeing ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
Insight, the baseline Insitu UAV configuration, carries an electro-optical (EO) and/or an infrared (IR) camera on a light-weight inertially stabilized turret system integrated with communications range over 100 km, and flight endurance of 20+ hours. A dual bay configuration carries both EO and IR payloads on a single long-endurance vehicle.
Vehicle History
- Insitu's original UAV, the Aerosonde, was the first to cross the Atlantic in roughly 27 hours on 1.5 gallons of gasoline.
- The current vehicle configuration was initiated through a strategic alliance with The Boeing Company and marketed as ScanEagle.
- First autonomous launch, flight, and recovery was completed on June 19, 2002. Longest flight to date is 20.2 hours.
- Insitu UAVs have flown thousands of sorties, over 70,000 combat flight hours as of early 2008. In the first year of operation (2004), Insitu UAVs flew approximately 5,000 hrs in theater.
